At an early age Patton had fixed that his sole goal in life was to be a hero. He had several relatives in the Revolutionary, Mexican and Civil wars. Later that year Patton was promoted to the rank of Captain. In 1917, Patton was not only the first buster member of the United States Tank Corps, he also participated in the first major tank car involvement in Cambria, France. The battle was a success.
